Yoko Hiraoka-The Japanese Yea Ceremony

Yoko Hiraoka, a native of Japan, studied the Japanese Tea Ceremony from the early age of fourteen in the Ura-senke style, later movingtom the Omote-senke tradition in Kyoto, Japan. Her core training took place at Shōgaku-ji temple in Hyogo prefecture. She is an Omote-senke certified teacher with the tea name 'Sorei', meaning "Clear Awareness'.

She teaches Tea from her home in Louisville, Colorado, where she has a traditional tea garden and teahouse named 'Reigetsu-an' (Hut of the moon over the ridge).

Studying the Japanese Tea Ceremony

Students are welcome to contact Yoko at her home in Louisville, Colorado for lessons. She teaches all levels from beginner onwards.

Yoko Hiraoka-The Japanese Tea Ceremony


The Tea Ceremony is one of the oldest arts of Japan, a beautiful ritual of tea making and drinking. Participating in the Tea Ceremony encourages people to develop an appreciation of tranquility and harmony within their world at large. Participants will experience an artful ceremony where a bowl of matcha tea is prepared and drunk in the traditional way within an atmosphere created on the four principles of the Tea Ceremony: Harmony, Respect, Purity, Tranquility.
